The Chairman of the Committee of Commission Statutory Authority and State Enterprises Abdu Katuntu has faulted Uganda Law Society and the Uganda National NGO Forum for not turning up to a meeting they had been requested to attend. The committee had planned to discuss the 6 billion shillings payout for officials who participated in an oil tax case. Next week the committee intends to sum up the inquiry before it starts writing its report. The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has been hit by financial crisis. The party has currently failed to finance its 2017 budget to cover its planned country wide activities and campaigns. According to party President Major General Mugisha Muntu fraud and counterfeit sale of party cards in the pre- 2016 general elections was the catalyst. He is now calling for party member to fund raise and bail the party out.
The first Uganda – Nordic Business Forum and Exhibition has opened up in Kampala aimed at improving trade ties between the Pearl of Africa and countries including Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. According to the organizers, the forum hopes to raise the profile of participators and presence in the East African region, and provide a platform that will contribute to the nurturing of meaningful and lasting Nordic – Uganda business relationships.
Uganda will next week host a high level International meeting, the Global Forum on Local Government from the 4th to 6th of this month. The meeting convened by the United Nations Capital Development Fund and the UNDP will discuss means of achieving the Millennium Development Goals through Local Governments in developing nations. The meeting, expected to bring together 600 participants from 81 countries globally world will be opened by President Yoweri Museveni.
